Spotlight Casa Madrona
Built in 1885 as a private residence for San Francisco gas and electric tycoon William Barrett, the historic resort now includes an updated lobby, a new meeting room with postcard-worthy views of the Bay, and 11 hillside cottages and mansion suites housed in a restored Victorian. Guest rooms still retain original glass windows (in select second-story suites), four-poster beds, vintage-inspired ceramic jewelry trays, old-fashioned writing desks, and gas fireplaces. For more elbow room, reserve the 5,000-square-foot Alexandrite Suite equipped with a private concierge, a secret cabinet-turned-staircase leading to the building’s second level, and perks from a house Mercedes ML350 Bluetec for rides to and from the city, to a yacht for use during the stay. The price tag? $10,000. For those whose startup has not recently been acquired by Facebook or Google, mansion guest rooms start at $509 per night.
